Getting started at TasTAFE: Off-campus

TasTAFE Libraries Welcome Off-campus Students

The libraries are a part of the support network of all students, whether they are on-campus or off-campus. We know many off-campus students are busy juggling work, study and family commitments, so please let us know how we can help you.

How to use the library from a distance

You can ask library staff to find information and email it to you eg we can email you a book chapter, journal article and links to useful websites. You can search the library catalogue 24/7 via the search box on the home page, but you are welcome to ask library staff to do the searching for you.

Library staff can post books, magazines and DVDs to you if you live in a remote area or aren't able to visit a campus library. Phone or email your nearest TasTAFE library to organise a library card and the loans of the books/magazines/DVDs that you need. You need to organise the return postage (but let us know if you have problems doing this).

We are flexible around due dates and don't charge overdue fines. We will contact you if a loan is overdue. If you don't reply to our messages, we will send you an invoice for the replacement costs of your loans. Phone us if you receive an invoice because we cancel the debt when you return your overdue loans.

Contact library staff by phone, email, Twitter and Facebook. Find your closest library's contact details on About Us

How to use the library on campus

Off-campus students are welcome to come in and use the libraries. You can:

  • Ask library staff to book you a computer ahead of time. You can also bring your own laptop or tablet and use the DoE_Student Wifi.
  • Ask library staff to help you find resources for your assignments.
  • Use library printers.
  • Browse the latest editions of magazines and journals and read the newspaper.
  • Make an appointment with a librarian or study support workers for one-on-one help.
  • Get a student ID card from Client Services during their opening hours (usually 8.30am-4.30pm). Your ID card is also your library card.
  • Get help with your assignment preparation eg you can print, scan, photocopy, laminate and bind your assignments. Costs will vary for laminating pouches and binding supplies, but library staff will be happy to help you.
