Tourism and Travel Blog - Attack of the Technology Abbreviations, May 2024

Dear all,

Welcome to my blog on AI, VR, AR and its impact on Tourism.Famed Hitachi Poster: Technology in Action

To expand the abbreviations for you ... AI = Artifical Intelligence, VR = Virtual Reality and AR = Augumented Reality

Behind these simple two letter abbreviations is a massive amount of technological change in the Tourism Industry. I decided to do a little bit of searching in the TasTafe Library Tourism & Hospitality Journal databases and found some fasinating current research into how AI, VR and AR are being used in many areas of the Tourism and Hospitality industry.

This change in the industry is varying in its impact and how we interact with it to promote or use a tourism product.

From innovation in tourism supply chains, personalising a hotel guests experience using AI, enhancing experiences at hertiage sites with AR to the impact of social media influencers on travel decisions and the analysis of TripAdvisor data to support destination management.

There is so much research out there and I went a bit crazy with journal citations, but the following articles will give you a good appreciation of how much technological change is happening in the industry and how suddenly you will see it's impact in areas you never thought possible.

Hope you find this information interesting and don't get information overload.

Remember, take a break from technology ... actually that sounds like a good blog topic, technology detox.

Signing off, Greg.
