Gourmet Traveller magazine has announced the winners of the 2022 Restaurant Awards. The full article, with all the winners, and the announcement video is available from the Gourmet Traveller website. The top 80 restaurants in Australia for 2022 are also presented in this article. Five Tasmanian restaurants made the list.

The overall winner of Best Restaurant is Tedesca Osteria on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. The restaurant is based around the 'osteria' style eating. This restaurant-style is strongly connected to the land and region of Italy where the concept originated. Chef Bridgette Hafner plans the set menu around the wood-fired oven and open grill, using locally grown produce and a "whole animal" philosophy. Currently Tedesca Osteria is booked out until 2022. Gourmet Traveller reviewed Tedesca Osteria, and awarded it Restaurant of the Year 2022, and Victorian Restaurant of the Year 2022.

Chef Daniel Puskas, chef and owner of Sixpenny in Sydney was named Chef of the Year for 2022. Puskas has been working in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, and has been at Sixpenny for nearly 10 years. Read the Gourmet Traveller review of Sixpenny.

On to the Tasmanian winners! Tasmanian Restaurant of the Year for 2022 winner was Fico, on Macquarie Street in Hobart. Fico offers an intimate, European style of casual fine dining. The restaurant was awarded 2 chefs hats by the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide in 2019.
